Brexit !
For the past 3 and a half years all our media has only one Mantra word "Brexit". 52% of those who voted in the 2016 referendum wanted to leave the European Union nobody doubts that. But how and under what terms are we going to leave? has all who voted to leave were fully aware of this. Surely the answer would and should be no.
I hear some screaming at me ," do not under estimate our intelligence we knew very well what we were doing". Please calm down I am not saying that the people who voted to leave did not know the consequences of their action. But majority of the people expected it would be an orderly exit after all. The word "orderly" is the main point of my argument. The leading campaigners of the leave side echoed the word orderly frequently. Yes once in a while the word "no deal" cropped up here and there but it was mentioned without conviction.
The cost of the Brexit phenomenon is so far three and a half years of valuable time and unfortunate two prime ministers. The main reasons put forward for us to leave the European Union is as follows,
according to the so called "clean breakers" theoretically we have a very Bright future outside EU. Great Britain will exhibit the "greatness" that it cannot do under the umbrella of EU. Yet we see the trade war that is being unfolded in front of our eyes in the so called free countries that operate outside EU. Which make us to think " the greatness of Great Britain outside EU" is an illusion.
What David cameron did after the referendum in 2016 is an example for the conduct of a decent politician. What Theresa May did was a typhical example of a compromised solution in the interests of the country. But with high hopes for the "no dealers" within the leave population Boris Johnson has emerged as their leader. To be popular and portray himself as a man who is against the political elite he has paid the maximum price. Yes he has initiated the exodus of the centre right , middle of the road conservatives by his action of expulsion of 21 conservative MPs from his party.
it is evident that he wants to take the right stand of the Brexit Party in order to null their effect among the euro sceptics. To that end he is seen as in the control of the right wing element within his party
As a byproduct of his action he gas galvanized the opposition parties against a no deal Brexit. Fortunately because of this confused climate Jermy Corbyn has a temporary surge of support among some section of the voters.
I am only worried about the after Brexit situation. It is true that some labour supporters in the North of the country do want Brexit at any cost and may lend their support to Boris Johnson now. But once the Brexit is out of the way having got rid of the moderate conservatives from his party would his right leaning party be able to satisfy normally left leaning labour supporters of the North?
Well these are interesting times. We are the fortunate ones who witness some extra ordinary turbulent political changes in the British Political history. Well after all we are only spectators who can only witness the events as they unfold.
