Egois not a voice that arises within us.
That voice is an illusion which we mistakenly believe to be “me.”
If we examine the psychological life of a human being, we can see that this small misidentification is the root cause of most of the suffering and confusion he experiences.
The true “self” exists as a silent witness.
Ego, on the other hand, is an imaginary character that keeps talking continuously.
But we accept the voice of that character as our own true voice.
This error in identification becomes the central problem of human life.
If we observe an ordinary person’s daily life, from the moment he wakes up in the morning until he goes to sleep at night, there is a continuous inner dialogue.
“What will I do today?”, “What will he think?”, “I must achieve this”, “I failed” this stream of thoughts never stops.
When these thoughts arise, instead of using them as a tool, he becomes them.
As a result, he forgets how to live freely and becomes a slave to his thoughts.
The voice of ego always operates through comparison and judgment.
“I am better than others”, “He is better than me”, “No one respects me” these are its natural expressions.
If a person is not appreciated at work, what he feels is not sadness about the work itself.
It is the pain of the ego saying, “I was not noticed.”
Similarly, when someone achieves a small success, it is not just simple happiness it becomes the ego’s pride “I am great.”
In this way, ego pulls every life experience into its own story.
In family relationships too, the impact of ego is very deep.
Many conflicts between husband and wife are not due to real problems.
They arise from the clash of egos “I am right”, “You are wrong.”
A word, a glance, or a small mistake becomes a big issue because ego ties it to identity.
The moment the feeling “I was insulted” arises, the real event disappears, and only the ego’s story remains.
In society, a person’s attempt to prove his status is also driven by ego.
Position, money, fame, and recognition all serve as food for that inner voice.
When a person buys a new house, it is not just for comfort; it becomes a way for that voice to say,
“I have progressed.”
But this satisfaction is temporary.
Within days, the voice starts seeking something else again.
Thus, a person keeps running endlessly.
A key trait of ego is its constant resistance.
It never accepts the present moment.
It is always concerned with the past or the future.
“If only I had done that”, “What will happen tomorrow?” such thoughts pull a person away from present peace.
Even when a person sees a beautiful evening, he is unable to fully experience it because his mind wanders elsewhere.
He is not seeing the scene.
He is only seeing his thoughts about it.
From a spiritual perspective, awareness begins when we observe this voice of ego.
When that voice speaks, recognizing, “This is not me; this is a movement of my mind,” creates a profound shift.
Through this, a person no longer remains a slave to that voice but becomes a witness to it.
This transformation gradually brings inner peace and clarity.
When life presents challenges, a person identified with ego easily falls apart.
He breaks under failure.
He rises excessively with success.
But a person who maintains some distance from that voice can view events with balance.
He experiences them,
but does not drown in them.
This allows him to experience life in an entirely different dimension.
Ego is not something that must be completely destroyed.
It is something to be understood.
It can be a tool, but it should not become our identity.
Like an actor taking on a role on stage, a human being takes on many roles in life.
The problem begins when he believes that the role itself is who he is.
When this truth is realized, one can live life with ease and awareness.
“Ego is not the voice within us.
It is the false belief that the voice is who we are.”
This is not just a philosophical statement.
It is a living reality in every person’s daily experience.
When this is understood, life’s complications begin to unravel.
Without needing change outside, clarity arises within.
That clarity leads a person toward true freedom and peace.
With love,
