Self inquiry - A journey within

Self-Inquiry – A Journey That Begins Within

We live in a world that moves fast.

Work, family, responsibilities, expectations—these things constantly pull us outward, into the noise of daily life.

But one day, in a quiet moment, a small voice rises within us:

“Who am I?”
“Where am I right now?”
“What do I truly want to become?”

That voice is the beginning of self-inquiry.

It’s not about judging ourselves—it’s more like a soft conversation with a close friend.

Self-inquiry doesn’t mean becoming our own judge, finding faults, and giving harsh verdicts.
Instead, it’s a gentle journey of understanding ourselves.
Rather than saying, “Why did you do that?” with blame, we ask, “What made you act that way?” with kindness.

Knowing Where We Are Helps Us Choose Where to Go

To move forward, we must first know where we stand.

Our emotions, health, relationships, work, and dreams—all these shape our current state.
By quietly observing them, we begin to see clearly.

Imagine a traveler who wants to reach a new city.
Before choosing a route, they must know where they are now.
Without that, they’ll be lost.

Life is the same.
Understanding our present situation is the first step toward meaningful direction.

Self-Inquiry in Everyday Life

Self-inquiry isn’t just for meditation or yoga.
It can happen during a quiet walk, while sipping coffee, or in a single deep breath.

Sometimes, while talking to a friend, a truth gently surfaces:
“I thought this way… but is it really true?”

Even that small question is a form of self-inquiry.

The Door to Change Opens from Within

Self-inquiry prepares us for change—not by blaming, but by understanding.

When we realize, “I acted this way because I was afraid,” the fear begins to soften.
When we see, “I spoke that way because I wanted to be understood,” our words become gentler.

In the End…

Self-inquiry is a journey with no final destination.

But each day, when we speak to ourselves with honesty, understand our feelings, and learn to love who we are—that’s the beauty of the path.

We don’t need to become someone else.
We simply need to see ourselves clearly.

From awareness comes understanding.
From understanding comes peace.
And from peace comes a new way of loving ourselves.

That peace gently guides us toward the right direction.

Until we meet again,
With love,
Sakthi Sakthidasan
