The Quest of a Mind

The Quest of a Mind That Seeks Truth Without Fear or Belief

"A mind clouded by fear or belief is incapable of any kind of understanding, any realization of what truth is."
J. Krishnamurti

The fundamental purpose of human life is to realise truth.

But truth is not something worshipped as an idol in a temple, nor is it confined to lines printed in books.

It is the expression of direct experience, revealed only in the light of a clear mind.

J. Krishnamurti’s words above profoundly illuminate this insight.

Fear is The Fog of the Mind

Fear is a natural human emotion.

Yet it acts as a fog that obscures the freedom of the mind.

A student, fearing failure in exams, studies only for marks instead of seeking true knowledge.

A parent, afraid of social criticism, suppresses the uniqueness of their child.

A worker, fearing job loss, accepts even the mistakes of their superior.

These fears block the ability to see truth directly.

Where fear exists, thought contracts.
The mind seeks safety, avoids challenges.
As a result, the deeper experiences of life do not reach us.

Belief is A Mask That Distorts Truth

Belief offers comfort to many.
But it also acts as a mask that distorts truth.

One immersed in religious belief struggles to understand other faiths.

One firmly rooted in political belief hesitates to hear opposing views.

One bound by family traditions resists new paths.

Belief closes the open doorway of the mind.
It declares,

“This is the truth.” But truth is not a conclusion.

It is a continuous quest.
The wall of belief obstructs that quest.

Clarity is the Light of Truth

A mind free from fear and belief is as clear as a child’s eyes.

It questions, doubts, explores.

It does not blindly follow the old.

It does not hesitate to examine the new.

It seeks to experience truth not as a theory, but as a living reality.

Only such a mind can truly realize truth.
It moves toward life without any constraints.

When an artist expresses their inner feelings without fear or belief, true art is born.

When a teacher understands the uniqueness of a student, true education happens.

When a spiritual seeker transcends belief and experiences directly, true spirituality emerges.

How Should We Live?

This question may arise quietly in the corner of the mind.

To live this insight, we must follow certain principles:

Independent Thinking: Listen to others, but think for yourself.

Facing Fear: When fear arises, don’t suppress it explore its cause and resolve it.

Questioning Belief: Ask why we hold the beliefs we do.

Clear Attention: Observe each day and each experience as if for the first time.

I shall return again.
With love,
Sakthi Sakthithasan
