Faith, Challenges, and the True Measure of Life’s Success

Faith, Challenges, and the True Measure of Life’s Success

With some dream, with some goal in mind, we begin the journey called life.

Standing by us in that journey is a certain kind of faith.

Whether we succeed in our dream or not depends on the strength of that faith within us.

Faith is not a mere daydream.

It is like a small candle we carry through a dark forest.

That light may not illuminate the entire forest, but it gives us the courage to take the next step.

Reaching the goal alone is not success.

Facing challenges along the way without retreating is itself a great victory.

But does strong faith guarantee that the dream we began with will surely come true?

For example, if someone dreams of becoming a doctor and holds strong faith, yet due to unforeseen circumstances ends up as a compounder, one might wonder: “What was the use of strong faith?”

Here, strong faith does not mean achieving the dream exactly as imagined.
Even if the expected goal is not reached, using what is attained wisely to find satisfaction in life is the true meaning of faith.

Luck in life is like cards dealt in a game.
No one can guarantee which card one will receive.

But success lies in how we play with the cards we are given.

Many waste time lamenting that their cards are bad.

But the best player is not the one who fears his cards,
he is the one who thinks how best to play them and finish the game.

It is not the circumstances beyond our control that matter,  but how we handle the opportunities within our hands.

Life is not easy.
It throws many challenges at us.

And time does not stop throwing them simply because we cannot handle them.

A young girl once told her mother
“Mother, I cannot handle life’s challenges. I don’t know how to face situations. My heart is weary and I feel like giving up everything.”

Her mother took her to the kitchen.

She asked her to bring carrots, eggs, and coffee powder.

She boiled three pots of water,
placing carrots in one, eggs in another, and coffee powder in the third.

After 20 minutes, she asked her daughter to observe them.

The carrots had softened,
the egg’s liquid interior had hardened,
and the coffee powder had blended with the water, turning it into fragrant coffee.

Her mother said:
“My child, all three were placed in the same boiling water.
But look at the results:
The hard carrot became soft,
the soft egg became hard,
but the coffee transformed the water itself into something rich and pleasant.

Likewise, we must transform challenges into opportunities that benefit us and others.”

My dear ones,

Unexpected challenges may strike us at any time.

Our skill lies in turning them into favorable conditions and living joyfully.

Challenges do not come to break us.

They come to uncover the strength hidden within us.

Gold becomes jewelry only when tested in fire.

Stone becomes sculpture only when struck by the chisel.

If we see life’s trials as tools that shape us, every pain becomes a lesson.

White clouds floating in the blue sky can turn into dark clouds hiding the sun.
The gentle breeze of evening can become a storm.

The waves that caress our feet can rise as tsunamis destroying cities.

Change is nature’s law.

Is it realistic to expect our lives alone to remain forever happy?

True happiness is not in grabbing what belongs to others,
but in seeking what is just, fair, and in harmony with conscience.

Yet happiness does not come merely by obtaining what we desire.

Happiness is not a product bought in a shop.

It is a crop we must cultivate in the depths of our mind.

It is easy to be happy when circumstances are favorable.

But the true wise one is he who remains calm even in storms.

Do not wander in search of happiness.

Learn to mix happiness into everything you do.

Happiness is not a shore we reach at the end of life’s journey.

Happiness is the journey itself.

Spring waits at life’s doorstep.
But the drought of summer leaves such deep scars that we fail to recognize spring when it arrives.

Walking through sorrow, we will surely meet the gate of joy.
This is life’s law.

True spiritual life is not abandoning attachments nor drowning in them.

It is living amidst them without being bound by them.

Victory lies not in the peak we reach,
but in the honesty and humanity we show along the path.

Success gained through shortcuts is temporary,

like words written in river sand.
But progress earned through righteousness is like words carved in stone.

Living as a good person is not easy.

There are always more people waiting to trip a good man than to support him.

Whatever we do, it must be done without betraying our conscience.

That is life’s fundamental goal.

My dear generation,

There is no measure for a successful life.
Those who live with love, peace, compassion, and humanity are the truly successful ones.

You can do it.

And how should this success be attained?

Through love, with righteousness as support,
by giving due respect to others,
and by not resting on the labor of others.
That is the kind of success that endures forever.

I have strong faith that you can achieve it.

With love,
Sakthi Sakthithasan
