March 20th is celebrated as the International Day of Happiness.
But in truth, every day in life can be a day of happiness if we understand its essence.
Why do we do anything?
What are its consequences?
Are those results truly attainable?
Without clarity on these questions, blind efforts alone cannot fulfill a person’s noble dreams.
A man once began meditating blindly, hoping to become a Buddha.
When he opened his eyes, he saw his Guru standing nearby.
He asked why the Guru was waiting there.
The Guru replied, “I wanted to know why you are meditating so intensely here.”
The man said, “To become a Buddha.”
The Guru said nothing. Instead, he picked up a stone and began tossing it up and catching it repeatedly.
The man, puzzled, asked, “Why are you doing that?”
The Guru answered, “I am going to turn this stone into a diamond.”
The man laughed: “By tossing it up and catching it, will it become a diamond?”
The Guru looked at him deeply.
Only then did the man realize his mistake.
Meditation is meant to steady and calm the mind, not to transform oneself into Buddha, Jesus, or a saint.
Happiness is not created merely by external possessions.
It arises from inner peace and mental balance.
Whatever the outer circumstances, if clarity exists within, happiness will always remain with us.
Life is a long journey.
The small victories we achieve, the people we meet, the love we share.these are the milestones of happiness.
The destination matters, but every step toward it plants seeds of joy.
Often we mistakenly think happiness lies only in great achievements.
But in truth, a child’s smile, a friend’s companionship, a family’s love these are the deepest forms of happiness.
Happiness is not just personal.
It multiplies when shared.
When we share our joy, it lights up others, and that light returns to surround us.
Thus, happiness is not a destination.
It is a practice.
If we sow happiness in our daily actions, words, and love, it will bloom around us throughout life.
My dear young generation!
From my own experience of carrying unfulfilled dreams for long years, I say this.
Goals, desires, and dreams yield fruit only if they are truly attainable.
Otherwise, they are like water poured into sand.
With inner clarity and sincere effort, walk toward your goals.
They are within reach.
Every day, whatever we do, we must do it joyfully.
So why this day?
What is happiness?
It holds different meanings for each person.
This day serves as a reminder to reflect on those meanings and understand them clearly.
One might even ask: “Should we do everything happily even stealing?”
Here lies the chance to clarify the true meaning of happiness.
Happiness is not about reaching a goal.
It is about enjoying the journey toward it.
It is not something far away to be attained someday.
It is savoring today’s journey itself.
The importance we give to “happiness” or “bliss” in life varies for each of us.
For some, it is buying what they like; for others, traveling to places they love.
We set goals and pursue them.
Only a few reach them before life ends.
Does that mean others are not happy?
No.
We all embrace joyful moments in our daily lives.
But the pressures of pursuit often make us miss them.
If we begin to fully experience them, we will realize happiness is not a distant goalit is our everyday life.
Let us train ourselves to live each day joyfully. Myself included.
I share what touched my heart.
There was once a man in a village who behaved strangely.
Because he acted differently from ordinary people, everyone called him mad.
Near the village was a hill, with a small river flowing beside it.
Every morning, he would roll a huge stone from the foot of the hill up to its peak, struggling all day.
By evening, he would reach the top and then push the stone down into the river.
The stone would crash into the water with a loud sound, and he would laugh.
The next morning, he would retrieve the stone from the river and begin again.
The villagers asked, “Why do you repeat this every day?”
He only smiled.
One day, his elder brother asked angrily, “Why do you suffer so much for this?”
The man replied, “I enjoy the sound when the stone falls into the river.”
His brother scoffed: “So much effort for a moment’s pleasure?”
The man laughed: “Isn’t that what everyone does in life struggling daily for small moments of joy?”
His brother was stunned into silence.
Yes, my dear ones!
If we discover the true source of happiness, every day in life becomes a festival.
Come, let us seek it together.
We can.
With love,
